PIZZA is an application for reading and writing electronic mail in fidonet standards and for a complete and flexible point management. We presume that who is reading these lines has a minimal experience with applications of this kind.
The user interface follows the macintosh standard and should be compatible with all existing mac models. Installation is rather easy, you must have all the things like a point number, a modem, a mailer like "Formula1" by Massimo Senna and a packets extractor like "Zip Extract" or "Arcmail Extract".
The only purpose of this documentation is to let you see and try the application. Without your private user code, you'll use PIZZA in demo mode. Some features will not be avalaible. Consider seriously registration and don't lose time hackering: it took several month to build the code, and a lot of phone calls to debug it. With the registration I'll send you a printed manual with detailed information, and the last version of PIZZA.
PIZZA is expandible with externals written as stand alone code. Ask me for the interface code, and I'll send it too.
• Installation
As we said, you must have on your hard disk at least PIZZA, Formula 1, Formula 1 Setup, Zip Extract and your point and boss data.
- Create a new folder, name it as you like and drag here PIZZA application.
- Double click to open PIZZA.
- Appears a "Fast Setup Window".
Insert carefully your data, and click Install.

- A dialog says that PIZZA created a piece of "Formula1 Prefs" for you.
- You'll see the about dialog. Skip it.
Well, now no windows are opened.
- Return to finder.
You see a lot of files created by PIZZA. Move them as you like, no restrictions.
- Open folder "Spizzico". This is PIZZA's "System Folder".
- Open folder "Communication".
- Drag here "Formula 1", "Formula1 Setup", "Zip Extract"
and if needed "Arcmail Extract".
- Rename from finder the following applications:
"Formula 1" --> "1. Formula 1"
"Zip Extract" --> "2. Zip Extract"
"Arcmail Extract --> "3. Arcmail Extract"
As you think, we are defining the execution order of poll applications.
Only the first character of the application name is significative.
- Replace the empty file "Faces" with the one included in PIZZA bundle, if there is.
- Open "Formula 1 Setup". Configure correctly following the F1's manual.
Ready. To send your first message, go to PIZZA, select "Post mesage" from menu "Special". Fill in the fields, the right address and message text. The only area avalaible now is your boss's matrix area. Close the window. Select "Poll first boss" from "Special". If all it's ok, PIZZA will export the message and connect to the bbs with Formula1. At the end of the session, the packets will be imported and the new files areas created.
• On the fly guide
These are few notes, the manual is much more detailed.
All PIZZA files can be opened and handled from the finder easily. If you delete or move an essential file, a new one will be crated at boot time. All the files are rapresented as lists of elements. Use "New item" and "Edit item" under "Edit" menu to modify and insert lists's elements.
With every list are active the standard edit features, copy, paste, cut and delete. Selected elements are copied in command separated format line by line easy to read
as text. I's up to you copy and paste elements between lists in the right way. There are two exceptions: messages and replies lists. Are copied to clipboard all the items with the text: to copy only the listings informations, hold down shift while you select the copy command or you press the keyboard alias "Command - C".
It's possible to customize searching criterias by editing the "Lookings" file. Anyway in a single search method, a message is found if one of the different methods match: methods are logically linked by the "or" operator.
Small Icons meaning.
- Archive. Message or reply to keep in the file.
- Trash. Can be deleted after use, generally after poll.
- Box with "S". Send at next session.
- People: group message. Send the same message to different addresses.
- Watch: send message on a specified day.
Small phones in the boss list.
- Down: Don't call.
- Oblique: Call only next time.
- Up: Call every time.
• Folders
Spizzico: is PIZZA's "System Folder". You can drag here, if you like, some files of home folder (where is PIZZA application): Users, Faces, Prefs, Lookings, Files to Request, Files to Send.
About lines: contains the about lines suggested during a reply. There is a default file: "Default about lines". For every area you can write custom about lines creating about files named: "Abouts of NameOfYourArea".
Archives: if you choose the standard saving method ("Messages menu"), files are created here with standard names. Other mail files saved here will appear under the same menu.
Communication: Documents and applications to call BBSs. Look into the Gateway folder for files downloaded with file requests.
Extensions: put here PIZZA's extensions.
Origin lines: contains the replies' origin lines. There is a default file: "Default Origin lines". For every area you can write custom origins lines creating origin files named: "Origins of NameOfYourArea".
Windows menu: something like apple menu items folder. Put here aliases of PIZZA documents you often use. Application aliases are also valid (ex. TeachText, MacBin etc.)
• Demo version notes.
Use "DEMO" as user code. Limitations are:
- timed use;
- about window at every startup;
- search only in one matrix area and two echos.
- only one extension loaded, if available.
